11 Days Housesitting in North Stamford

I’ve been up here in North Stamford for the past week with two of my favorite little clients, Ripple and Ruby. A couple of young, fun, and fiesty dogs, one a Boston terrier and the other a Chihuahua. The action never stops with these two! They are very energetic and while Ripple is the older of the two, he happily plays with his little sister Ruby when she instigates things.

They can get quire rambunctious throughout the day and sometimes require extra attention to keep them from getting bored. Ruby for instance… her owner told me last month when I was here that she has really become obsessed with playing catch and she was not lying one bit about that. Ruby seems to never tire of this game, and so I happily throw the ball as many times as it takes to tire this little fierce one out.

The more I take care of them though the more I can see that they are so much more comfortable spending time with me. They know my routine, and I know theirs and so now we kind of have our own routine throughout each day. The main thing is that they are happy and stress-free. Neither of them displays any anxiety or emotional distress because their owners are away and it all flows seamlessly when they leave and I step in.

These two are a lot of fun, even if sometimes Ripple gets a little fresh and barks at me lol. He’s just doing it to play which he likes to do a lot of. Anyway, I will be sad when our stay ends because that means I won’t see them again until February. But that does give me something to look forward to until then. It definitely doesn’t change the fact that I have lots of other fun doggy clients lined up in the meantime, including a few new ones this month!

Very excited to spend time with them and can’t wait to document that experience. They live up in Bedford which is just such a nice area to stay in. Not unlike North Stamford, or back-country Greenwich.

Be sure to follow me on my socials to see my updates on my latest pet sitting adventures.

The Pure Joy of Cat Sitting a Kitten

Sweet, Siberian kitten Tawny resting in her window seat being just the sweetest

Why I Adore My Job: Fluff and Cuddles with Tawny, the Sweetest Siberian Kitten in White Plains, NY

As a professional pet sitter, my days are filled with everything from lively dog walks along the Stamford waterfront to tending to senior pets who need extra TLC. But I have to admit, there is a special place in my heart reserved for the quiet, joyful work of providing Cat Sitting services. Several weeks back, caring for little Tawny, a sweet four-month-old Siberian kitten, reminded me exactly why.

Tawny is a tiny fluff ball who embodies the best of her breed—affectionate, playful, and incredibly gentle. Her family is located in the heart of White Plains and while it was a little far logistically from Stamford to White Plains on my lunch breaks, I made it work because I fell in love with her. My primary role was drop-in visits, allowing her to stay in the comfort and familiarity of her own home while her family was traveling for work on days that they had to go into the office and neither could stay at home with her.

More Than Just Food and Water: The Art of Kitten Care

For a young kitten, just leaving a bowl of food and a fresh litter box isn't enough; it’s about ensuring their social and developmental needs are met. This is where professional, exclusive cat sitting makes all the difference. Kittens can be mischievous and very curious and can get into trouble very quickly when left to their own devices.

My check-ins with Tawny focused on three key areas:

  1. Playtime and Socialization: Siberian kittens are known for their high energy. We spent probably 45 minutes each visit on active play—chasing feather wands and playing fetch with her favorite hide-and-seek in cardboard boxes and under the couch. This dedicated interaction is vital for developing a balanced, confident cat.

  2. Health and Wellness Checks: As a kitten care specialist, I look for more than a full bowl. I monitor her eating, drinking, and litter box habits closely, ensuring she’s hitting all her milestones. For Tawny, this meant keeping an eye on her kitten socialization with new toys and sounds.

  3. Affection and Comfort: The best part! Tawny, like most Siberians, loves human interaction. I spent quality time just relaxing near her, offering gentle petting, and ensuring she felt safe and secure in my presence. I never had so much nuzzling and snuggling from a kitten in such a long time, my heart melted. Coming home to a calm, happy kitten is the goal of every trusted pet sitter in the area.

The Peace of Mind Only In-Home Pet Sitting Offers

For busy professionals and families across Stamford, CT, and Greenwich, CT, the decision to travel is often complicated by pet logistics. Boarding a kitten, especially a social one, can cause unnecessary stress.

My service provides true peace of mind. While Tawny’s parents were away, they received daily "Paw-gress Reports" with photos and videos of her playful antics. They could see that their little Siberian kitten was thriving, not just surviving.

Whether you have a cute, cuddly, dog or a sweet feline like Tawny needing dedicated cat care visits, my goal is always the same: to provide the highest level of care right in your home.

Greenwich Housesit & Stamford Drop-in

Havanese that I house sit for. Sitting on the couch ready to play a game of hide and seek.

I got to spend this past weekend with two of my favorite little furry clients, Bella and Teddy. Bella is a sweet Cavalier King Charles. She is about the cutest girl ever. So sweet, so timid and loves to snuggle right up beside me. Teddy is an adorable Havanese and he is just the funniest little guy.

The minute I arrive, it’s play time, go! He is a master at no-give backs and, and is more than happy to let me chase him around the apartment trying to get the toy he stole back from him. When we go out on walks, he thinks the grass is lava, so we have to avoid it at all costs. No worries, his mom actually told me that Teddy grew up in NYC so he was not used to walking around on grass. So now that he lives in the burbs, he doesn’t know what to make of it.

I can also tell he likes to keep himself close to a wall, or any furniture close by when we go through the lobby of his apartment building. However, I noticed he got a little braver this weekend on our drop-in visit when we came back into the lobby from our walk around the harbor. Instead of making himself smaller like he usually does, he walked so very bravely and confidently(still next to furniture but less skittishly) to the elevator. This is a big accomplishment for this little guy! Overall I have to say he gives me non-stop laughs with his comedic timing, if ever a dog has such concept. Havanese dogs are just the cutest, most playful, and smart dogs, I’ve encountered for sure.

Now Ms Bella, she is the polar opposite of Mr Teddy (of course she has high intelligence too). She likes to curl up on the couch in the TV room when I’m working. Her mom and dad say that is her usual routine, although she will switch between the couch and her snuggly bed in the kitchen so she can hang out with me while I work. I will share a little secret, she likes to manipulate me for more treats, lol. She’ll let me know she has to go out in the yard, so she runs down quick, does her business, and then it’s back inside to the treat station. This I have to say is her favorite thing to do when she comes back in from a walk or the backyard. She can’t contain the excitement.

The best part with me and Bella is that now I’ve been taking care of her for about a year and when she saw me this weekend, I received a much less reserved welcome from her. She’s not the type of girl normally. I think it’s just the sweet Cavalier King Charles temperament. But she was very excited and happy to see me and that I can say honestly makes my heart feel three times bigger than it is.

And that is really what this is all about, why I do what I do. I get to enjoy the time I spend with people’s pets, they get to bond with me and feel like I’m an extension of their family. There is less stress because they are not being taken to the boarding place, and they are not having to get used to many different people staying with them. Never knowing who’s going to come next. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, because he pet parents do what they need to do to make sure their pets are cared for and every pet service has it’s place. I just know that pets if nothing, thrive with consistency and routines.

When you know you have someone that knows your dog’s routines and they are happy to be with that person while your gone, is gold.

How to Find a Reliable House Sitter for Your Dog in Stamford, CT: An Essential Checklist

Nicole with client Bruno. Location: Stamford, CT

If you’re planning a trip away from Stamford, CT, one of your biggest priorities is finding trusted care for your beloved canine companion. While kennel boarding is an option, more and more dog owners are discovering the benefits of house sitting with dogs. This service allows your pup to stay in the comfort and security of their own home, maintaining their routine and minimizing stress. But how do you ensure you're hiring a truly reliable and experienced professional? This guide will walk you through the essential steps to secure the best in-home dog sitter Connecticut has to offer, focusing on the specific needs of pet owners in the Fairfield County, CT area.

Finding a quality pet care provider is about more than just finding someone who loves dogs; it’s about finding a professional who understands the nuances of professional pet care. The first step in your search should be verifying a sitter's credentials. This includes looking for background checks, insurance, all signs of a serious, trustworthy business. A professional will also have well-formed routine or outline of how they will carry out their responsibilities, emergency protocols, and communication expectations.

Once you've narrowed down candidates, prioritize a face-to-face "Meet & Greet" at your Stamford home. This allows you to observe how the potential dog sitter interacts with your dog in their own environment. Watch for signs of comfort and familiarity; does your dog approach them confidently, or do they seem hesitant? This initial impression is invaluable. Discuss your dog’s specific needs, including any medications, feeding schedules, or behavioral quirks.

Having a great house sitting experience for your dogs relies on open communication and complete transparency. Asking detailed questions about their experience with emergency situations, or how they handle common issues like separation anxiety, will help you gauge their expertise and commitment to in-home dog sitting as a serious profession, not just a side gig.

The Importance of Routine: Maximizing Your Dog’s House Sitting Experience

Bichon Frise looking up at his pet sitter

For your dog, routine is the bedrock of their world. When you’re away, the biggest source of anxiety is the disruption of this predictable schedule. This is where an expert in pet house sitting truly shines. My goal as your trusted pet sitter is to be a seamless extension of your presence, ensuring that your dog's daily life remains as normal as possible. From the moment I arrive, maintaining their established routine for feeding, walking, playtime, and bedtime is my number one priority. This consistency is not just a convenience; it’s a critical component of high-quality pet care Fairfield County CT pet owners demand, helping to alleviate stress and prevent behavioral issues that can arise when a dog feels unsettled.

To ensure a successful stay, detailed preparation is key. Before your departure, I know that you have provided me detailed documentation your dog’s entire schedule and needs. This includes not just when they eat, but how much and where they eat, as some dogs require special conditions like slow feeders or separation from other pets. Walks are another crucial element; I need to know the usual routes, whether they pull on the leash, and if they have any reactivity to other dogs or people in the neighborhood.

As your go-to dog sitter in the Stamford/Greenwich areas, I commit to replicating these details as closely as possible, but also forming our own routine that your pet will love. Because at the end of the day I find that the dogs that I care for again and again, forge their own particular routine with me that only they and I share. This is due to the fact that they know and relate to you their #1 as they respond how you interact with them, and it’s the same with your dogs and myself (usually it’s a doggy party with non-stop play, kisses, and cuddles - they just seem to “know” that I’m there for them).

This level of meticulous pet care planning is what sets a premium dog house sitting service apart. It shows I'm not just a visitor; I am a temporary, dedicated caregiver who will ultimately become an extension whose focused entirely on your dog's comfort and emotional well-being throughout the duration of your trip.
